Product Focus: The Netherlands

When one thinks of the cuisine of the Netherlands (or Holland to the non-traveler), it might take a few minutes to focus on the answer. But we find that the food here is one of Europe’s best kept secrets.

The best kept secret in Europe!

True that the “waffle” was invented here, and that they do everything you can imagine with pancakes (a friend had one with pineapple, sausage and sauer kraut), but that is merely the beginning.

The Dutch in their Golden Era colonized many areas of the world and established trade everywhere. They assimilated these diverse cultures into their own, and brought back the best. In the Netherlands you can find incredible Indonesian, East Indian, Argentine, Italian, and African restaurants. Even small villages will often have an excellent Chinese restaurant.

On our tours here we connect our groups with these chefs and learn the marvelous secrets of green, yellow and red curries, Indonesian Rice Table, and of the spices used on Argentine grilled meats. It is the best of travel and cuisine getting such variety in one small country.

The Dutch also have many other traditional delights like their pastries many of which are filled with seasoned meats. The sausage roll is a staple there and melts in your mouth when fresh out of the oven.
